- Lakeshore East Construction
The Lakeshore East was closed this past weekend to safely complete important construction work that will bring more GO service and new transit connections.
During the closure, crews conducted track improvements along the line including installing crossover switches, new track panels, replacing ballast and track surfacing. They also completed track drainage as part of work on the future East Harbour Transit Hub.
In addition, this closure allowed us to make progress on the future Ontario Line subway, with crews conducting necessary utility work in Toronto’s east end.
We know planned service disruptions are frustrating. But these temporary weekend closures are necessary to improve and maintain our transit system. They help us build a faster, more frequent, and safer network – not just for today, but for future generations too.
To our customers and communities – thank you for your patience as we continue to expand GO service and build the Ontario Line subway.
Planned Service Adjustments
Metrolinx is prioritizing reliability and improving your options by offering trains every 10 minutes during rush hour, reducing wait times and naturally spreading demand to ease crowding and improve comfort.
Frequent all-stop service delivers key benefits during construction, especially with major works underway and the third track temporarily out of service.
All-stop service also avoids the bottlenecks and cascading delays that express trains would create without passing tracks, while giving you more flexibility to adjust your travel during peak periods.
Lakeshore East GO Expansion builds on what we have today, paving the way for quieter, faster, and more efficient GO train service.
To keep these plans on track, we sometimes work overnight and on weekends, building and updating rail infrastructure, renovating GO stations, building new train platforms and more. Learn more about GO Expansion.
We aim to provide you with plenty of notice when we need to adjust service for construction activity. Please plan your trip in advance.
